CIP – Carriage and Insurance paid to (Place of Destination) - Incoterms 2020 Explained. Under CIP terms, the seller clears the goods for export and is responsible for delivering the goods to the carrier nominated by the seller. The seller must pay the cost of carriage, but the seller risk ends at the place of shipment.
Definition of CIF according to Incoterms 2010: “Cost, Insurance and Freight” means that the seller delivers the goods on board the vessel or procures the goods already so delivered.
You will find them in the first part of the Incoterms 2020 publication, but here we provide you a synthesis of what they are and what you can do with CIF Incoterms: Cost Insurance and Freight CIF is quite similar to CFR but only with a slight difference. In that, in CIF there happens to be an addition of the insurance. The risk is passed on by the buyer from the seller. This happens as soon as the shipment gets loaded on to the carrier. The major difference between FOB and CIF is when liability and ownership transfer. In most cases of FOB, liability and title possession shifts when the shipment leaves the point of origin. With CIF, responsibility transfers to the buyer when the goods reach the point of destination.
